Laurel Hecht
I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio during the mid 50’s through early 70’s and returned there later in life. I have degrees from two art schools; Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and Croydon College of Art in Croydon, England. I have also lived, sold and showed my art in Santa Fe, NM, Ithaca, NY, New York City, NY, Cleveland, OH. I now in Delray Beach, where I live with my wife of 25 years.
Favorite subjects for me right now are flowers, and landscapes that are close to my home. I paint them into life as a piece of my story. These bouquets and near surroundings have qualities that are important in my life right now: quiet because right now chaos is not in my wheelhouse; gentle because anything too bold feels intrusive and interferes with my ability to drift off into creativity. Living right now, I need to process all that is going on around me by painting quiet and gentle pieces, enabling me to balance things out.
In making art, I feel a familiar comfort, without outside judgment. I think about the many things in my life, and eventually those things drain off, and I am just concerned with the painting.
